📚 October 2, 1902 — Published: The Tale of Peter Rabbit (self-funded version)

The Sto­ry of Peter Rab­bit-The Tale of Peter Rab­bit) was offi­cial­ly pub­lished in the UK with 250 copies of his own edi­tion.Beat­rix Pot­ter(Beat­rix Pot­ter, 1866–1943) cre­at­ed.

  • Impor­tance and Con­tri­bu­tion: This lit­tle book isMile­stones in the his­to­ry of mod­ern pic­ture books. It per­fect­ly com­bined text and illus­tra­tions for the first time, cre­at­ing a brand-new pock­et book for­mat designed for chil­dren. The sto­ry tells the thrilling sto­ry of the naughty Peter Rab­bit who sneaks into Mr. McG­o­na­gal­l’s veg­etable gar­den and is almost caught. The book was ini­tial­ly reject­ed by many pub­lish­ers. Pot­ter print­ed 250 copies at his own expense and dis­trib­uted them to friends, includ­ing Arthur Conan Doyle, the author of Sher­lock Holmes. Fred­er­ick Warne & Co. then offi­cial­ly pub­lished a com­mer­cial edi­tion of 5,000 copies, which quick­ly sold out. The book became a glob­al clas­sic of chil­dren’s lit­er­a­ture, pro­mot­ing the nat­u­ral­ism and moral nar­ra­tive of British pic­ture books. It has been trans­lat­ed into mul­ti­ple lan­guages and adapt­ed into ani­ma­tion.
