In July 2008, “Peking Opera Cats: Changbanpo,” a book series from the “Sensation of China” series published by Comic Book Publishing House and co-authored by Xiong Liang and Wu Zhai, won the Best Picture Award at the Second Asian Youth Animation Competition and the “Honglicheng” China (Guiyang) Cartoon Art Festival. Tatsuya Miyanishi is currently one of Japan’s most active picture book authors. As of his latest, “Little Frog Takes a Nap,” he has published 11 books in simplified Chinese. He has visited China three times, and his lectures are a delight to both adults and children, who find his approachable and engaging language. Renowned picture book researcher Peng Yi even gave him the distinctly Chinese nickname “Uncle Congratulations.”
