Bernard Weber(Bernard Waber, 1921–2013)Born in Philadel­phia, USA, he is a famous pic­ture book writer and illus­tra­tor. He has cre­at­ed more than 30 chil­dren’s books, with a total sales of more than 1.75 mil­lion copies. His most famous work is the “Lyle” series (start­ing with “The House on East 88th Street“The House on East 88th Street, 1962; Lyle the Croc­o­dileLyle, Lyle, Croc­o­dile, 1965), tells the heart­warm­ing adven­tures of Lyle, a city croc­o­dile. In the most pop­u­lar pic­ture book in Chi­na, Courage (CourageI hap­pened to trans­late the nov­el “Lyle the Croc­o­dile” (2002), which I also trans­lat­ed. I also trans­lat­ed anoth­er of his books, “Ask Me.” The “Lyle the Croc­o­dile” series was adapt­ed into a 1987 ani­mat­ed film, a stage musi­cal, and a 2022 Hol­ly­wood live-action film.

Paul Gob­le(Paul Gob­le, 1933–2017)Born in Hasle­mere, Sur­rey, Eng­land, he lat­er immi­grat­ed to the Unit­ed States and focused on cre­at­ing chil­dren’s pic­ture books on Native Amer­i­can themes. He inter­prets Indi­an leg­ends with del­i­cate and vivid paint­ings, and his rep­re­sen­ta­tive work is “Wild Horse Song” (The Girl Who Loved Wild Hors­es, 1978) tells the sto­ry of a girl from the Great Plains and her wild hors­es. 1979 Calde­cott Medal Gold, is hailed as a clas­sic of chil­dren’s lit­er­a­ture.

Nicholas Mord­vi­nov(Nicholas Mord­vi­noff, 1911–1973)Born in St. Peters­burg, Rus­sia. After World War II, he moved to the Unit­ed States and col­lab­o­rat­ed with the writer William Lip­kind to pub­lish pic­ture books. They are well-known to read­ers under the joint pen name “Will and Nico­las”. He is known for his pic­ture books “Lit­tle Smart and Lit­tle Mad“Find­ers Keep­ers, 1951) won 1952 Calde­cott Medal, a year before that, their “Two Lit­tle Reds” (The Two Reds, 1950) has been 1951 Calde­cott Medal.

James Claude Bow­man(James Cloyd Bow­man, 1880–1961), an Amer­i­can chil­dren’s lit­er­a­ture writer, whose work “Bill, the Great Cow­boy“Pecos Bill: The Great­est Cow­boy of All Time) 1938 New­bery Medal.

Geor­gy Yudin(Georgij Judin, 1943–2022), Soviet/Russian illus­tra­tor, writer and poet. In 1983, he won the BIB Gold­en Apple Award.

Vladimir GolozubovVladimir Golozubov (1925–2000), Ukrain­ian illus­tra­tor, became famous in 1971 with his pic­ture book Two Cocks (Dva pivnyky) won BIB Gold­en Apple Award.

Ali­da Mar­cusAli­da Malkus (1888–1976), Amer­i­can writer, best known for her work Dark Star of ItzaThe Dark Star of Itza: The Sto­ry of a Pagan Princess) 1931 New­bery Medal.
