[Reprint] The Invisible Golden Dream: Reading “Tico and the Golden Wings”

Thank you Doudou and Mom for such a profound reading! Your discussion and sharing gave me a lot of inspiration :)Original address:The Invisible Golden Dream——Reading Tico and the Golden Wingsauthor:I am Xiao Doudou[转载]看不见的金色梦想——读《蒂科与金翅膀》I should say that Leo Lionni’s books never disappoint me.
Each of his new books brings me new joy.
“Tico and the Golden Wings” is a new book I received from the Love Tree Picture Book Library the day before yesterday.
I am also looking forward to this book very eagerly.
When you open the book, the unique scent of ink of the new book comes to your nose.
What immediately struck me was a painting style that was completely different from the Leo Lionni picture books I had seen before.
Typical Indian decorative style
Regarding the style of this book, if we have the opportunity in the future, let’s talk about it in detail.
From the overall composition to the expression method to the details, it is very worth recalling.
Later, I learned from Mr. Ajia’s “Chatting about Leonie’s Life” that
Lionel Messina once studied a branch of Hinduism.
This is one explanation for why Lionel Messi’s book is called “The Yoga Book”
Then, Tiko and the Golden Wings was perhaps created when he was most deeply engaged in the study of Hinduism.

Leo Lionni is a great man, but not an unfathomable one.
Although the picture style will appear to be refreshing and refreshing,
But the question of “Who am I” runs through all his works
This book “Tico and the Golden Wings”
Seeing a book is still like seeing a person, and the writing is still like the person
Inheriting the concise, rigorous and easy-to-read style of Lionni’s writing
Quietly narrate a simple but lingering story.
A little bird named Tico, without wings, cannot fly
But his friends loved him very much.
But his heart longed to fly, and he dreamed that he had a pair of strong golden wings.

Finally one day, with the help of the wishing bird, he realized his wish.
But while he was excited about the joy of flying in the sky, he encountered alienation from his friends:
“With these golden wings, you think you are better than us, don’t you?
You just want to be different from others.”

The narrative tone of the whole story is always light.
But when Tico was abandoned by his friends, the question in the article was sharp and straightforward:
“Why are they leaving? Why are they angry?
Is it bad to be different from others?
I can fly as high as an eagle.
I have the most beautiful wings in the world.
But my friends left me.
I was very lonely.”
Such questions hit my heart, and I was asked tears when I was caught off guard.
After reading with Doudou, we talked about this topic while revisiting the scene:
—Why did Tico’s friends leave?
Doudou replied: “Because they don’t like that he is different from them and they don’t have golden wings.”
—Why was Tico sad after his friends left?
Doudou said, “It’s so lonely without any friends to play with.”
The last sentence was spoken by Doudou out of emotion. Life without kids to play with is very lonely :)
Leo Lionni’s books were never written just for children.
Because his story is for everyone to hear.
People of different ages with different life experiences will read with different insights
Why can children understand the stories written by Lionel Messi?
Because he is very particular about words
In the words of Mr. Ajia:

Its strict grammar is exemplary, but its choice of words is very personal.

He doesn’t seem to automatically choose common words, but rather prefers words that are more original, interesting, and symbolic.”

[转载]看不见的金色梦想——读《蒂科与金翅膀》[转载]看不见的金色梦想——读《蒂科与金翅膀》After his friends left, Tico began his lonely journey.
He began to meet different people, people whom he took the initiative to help.

There is an interesting place here. All the people Tico helps are people, not animals.
When Tico used the feathers on his golden wings to help others for the first time,
I was surprised to find that a real black feather, as soft as silk, had grown out from the place where the golden feather was plucked.

He began to give the golden feather to others little by little.
Tico gave the last few golden feathers to a beautiful bride.

This brings up a question for Doudou:Why did Tico give all the last few golden feathers to his bride?
Regarding this issue,
We discussed it for a long time and came up with different versions of the answer:
1. Tico wanted the bride to use golden feathers as the most beautiful decoration for the wedding
2. Tico wanted to give away the golden feathers as soon as possible and return to his friends.
3. The bride doesn’t look very happy, and Tico wants to cheer her up.
4. The bride can make a feather pen out of the feather and use it to write a letter to the groom telling him to marry her soon.
5. The bride’s family is very poor, and the golden feathers can be exchanged for money to make her wedding go smoothly.
6. Golden feathers represent happiness and joy
7. The bride’s headscarf has many peacock feather patterns, which Tico likes very much.
8. …

Please forgive my bad memory. Doudou gave ten reasons in total, and I turned around and lost a few of them.
The second reason made me ponder for a long time after closing the book.
Humans are social animals. No matter how proud you are or how powerful you are,
You all have a latent need, which is the need for social belonging.
Even if you know that there are many things in this social group that disappoint you
But you still have to understand one thing:
Once a person is separated from the social group, all his values will no longer be considered as values.
So, Doudou is right, Tico really wants to be back with his friends.

 Thus ends Tico’s story.
When all his golden feathers were replaced with black feathers
His companions happily accepted him: “Now you are the same as us.”
The article ends like this:
We were all huddled together tightly.
But I was so happy and excited that I couldn’t fall asleep.
I think of the craftsman’s son, the old woman, the puppeteer,
There are others whom I have helped with the Golden Feather.
‘My wings are black now,’ I thought,
‘But I’m still different from my friends.
We are all different.
Each has his own memories,
And invisible golden dreams.’
I make no secret of my love for this ending, just as I admire Mr. Lionni.
Loving others and loving yourself is always the biggest issue in life.
The two abilities of doing good and being grateful are worth learning for a lifetime.
Like Tico, everyone has experienced a lot in life: trauma, pain and failure
But when you face it calmly and go through it, you will be pleasantly surprised to find:
These experiences strengthen your spirit in a way that allows you to tap into your inner worth.
If you are willing, you can also share the positive power brought by this value with the people around you.
At the end of this book, I read about a positive and uplifting force.
I think anyone who has an invisible golden dream like Tico will like this ending.

I still feel unsatisfied, so I’d like to say a few more words.

Before reading a good book, it is best to be in a comfortable environment, find a comfortable posture, make a cup of tea, turn off your phone, and read slowly. After reading it once, you can read it again. If you are still not satisfied, then turn on the computer, start writing down what you see, get, feel and understand.

Sadly, moments like these are priceless. Last night, someone assigned me another task: they wanted me to take a moment out of my busy schedule to review their company’s brochure design, and ideally, to help them perfect the design for their exhibition in Beijing! I was so indignant at that moment… Why? I’m not your employee. Besides—I’m really busy!!! I have to work on my main job and my side hustle, and I still want to find time to read a book, and I want to chat in the group chat… But I can only keep these words to myself, not daring to say a word out loud! Why? Because I deeply understand the main idea that Mr. Leoni conveys in “Tico and the Golden Wings”: Although you may have your golden dreams in your heart, you must recognize your place in the group. This applies to society and to family. So, no matter how reluctant you are, you have to put family harmony first, right?!

However, Mr. Lionni also hinted that the golden dream still comes first! So, the USB drive filled with someone’s company information is quietly placed on my desk. I won’t connect it to the computer until I finish what I dream of doing. Someone is also very clear about this!
