[Repost] Red Mud Reading Camp Part 2 (First Session of Summer Camp, July 15th)

Original address:Red Mud Reading Camp, Part 2 (First Session of Summer Camp, July 15th)author:Red Mud Inspector
Red Mud has been hosting reading camps for three years now. Through practice, we have gradually discovered several rules:

1) To calm down, you first need to get “crazy.” After enough exercise, you can always see the children quietly studying. Therefore, at the Red Mud Reading Camp, “movement” is the main concern. The camp now has a daily sports meet, called “Daily Sports Meet,” where everyone can enjoy whatever they like, regardless of age or format. And good results aren’t necessarily determined by physical strength or size; everyone can have their own best event and record.

At the reading camp, there are endless sports activities. As long as you have enough time, there are endless variety. Adults and children alike will enjoy it!

2) It’s no exaggeration to describe these children as quick as a cunning rabbit, yet quiet as a pine tree. Watching them quietly reading is truly enjoyable. Even if some parents initially complained that their children didn’t enjoy reading, after daily silent reading time, everyone (including the adults) quickly became absorbed in the reading process. In this regard, adult role models are crucial!

3) Every aspect of the camp, including morning recitation and singing, magic crafts, magic stone soup, outdoor group games, movie screenings, themed book clubs, picture book drama performances, and storytelling competitions, is integrated with reading. Reading seamlessly connects with daily life, allowing readers to read for the sake of reading without having to make a conscious effort.

4) Even in a free, open, and comfortable environment, certain constraints are necessary; and a certain degree of restraint is, in fact, a guarantee of achieving the ideal state. Based on past experience, the reading camp set three rules in advance: campers must learn self-management and self-service, including the requirement that campers, both young and old, wash their own dishes after every meal. Surprisingly, the little ones didn’t see this as a burden. Apparently, they were restricted from playing the “washing dishes” game at home!
