Original address:Pinned post! About the origin, mission, implementation and development of Green Baby.author:Green ChildIntroduction to Green Child Charity Project
1. Background

The Green Kids charity project originated from an idea that mainland Chinese picture book author Xiong Liang had while visiting rural areas in western China several years ago: “Of course, we create for children, but there are so many excellent picture books, but due to price and distribution, only a few urban children have access to them. Why not make them available to more rural children? Why not compile a picture book magazine for rural children? Then, we could include all the excellent works we could find and create the best possible one. We believe in the power of reading. What we read as children, we never forget as adults. Perhaps, a magazine can change the future.”

This idea was recognized, actively responded to, and participated in by children’s literature writer Xiong Lei, children’s reading promoter A Jia, and Carrot Inspector. After a relatively short gestation period, with the support of the Chen Yixin Family Foundation, in November 2009, Green Child completed the transformation from “a good thing” to “a cause” and established the Green Child Public Welfare Project Department.
II. Mission and Vision
Green Kids’ mission: to dedicate the best works to rural children.

Vision: Through “Green Child” and related activities, we will enlighten rural children about natural art and reading, show them the beauty of things they know or don’t know, and guide them to truly care about the land under their feet, the people around them, the surrounding environment, and to maintain curiosity.
III. Project Implementation

According to the needs of the beneficiary groups, the project embodies the “1+2” service content.
“1” represents “Green Child”:

This is a “picture book” embodying hope and responsibility. 5,000 copies are printed each quarter, distributed to 120 schools, and read by approximately 30,000 primary school students. “Green Children” combines picture books, fairy tales, nature art, and reading education. We do not include any sympathetic or soothing content; instead, we leverage the power of nature art education to inspire children’s inner spirit. Through “Green Children,” we aim to bring art and reading enlightenment to more rural children. Through close collaboration with schools and NGOs, “Green Children” hopes to connect children with nature and cultivate and maintain their appreciation for beauty.
The characteristics of Green Child are:
⑴ According to the rules of spring growth, summer growth, autumn harvest and winter storage, “Green Child” is published quarterly;
⑵
Bringing together outstanding works from top domestic and international picture book, children’s literature, and natural science authors, we aim to open a window for rural children with high-quality content. We encourage young readers to create boldly and invite writers and painters to write and illustrate suitable works for publication.[转载]置顶贴!关于绿孩子的缘起、使命、执行与发展。

⑶ Free distribution to rural schools in need based on the quota of 6–8 people per book, and encourage group reading and “telling the story”.

“2”There are two activity modes:
1. Mobile creative classroom

After Green Kids launched the spring and summer issues in 2010, we discovered a phenomenon: most of the children’s submissions were monotonous and showed obvious signs of “assigned composition”. So, after more than a month of preparation, Green Kids began to innovate its project – “Mobile Creative Classroom”.

First, in the autumn issue of Green Child, a new column, “Composition Lesson Design,” was launched. Using the story “The Rabbit Tailor,” we’ll show young readers how to use fairy tales to describe the professions of people around us. No matter what they do, we’ll use an interesting animal to describe them. Details are crucial; subtle observations are more important than comprehensive overviews.

Next, the Green Child Project Team invited painters and writers to visit migrant worker schools in Beijing and rural schools in Hebei, Yunnan, and Henan to interact face-to-face with children. By sharing and telling picture book stories, they encouraged the children to appreciate and learn about pictures and colors. Through on-site “writing lesson design” demonstrations, they encouraged young readers to write about interesting events and interesting people around them. These activities provided Green Child with interesting and enriching material. The Winter 2010 issue featured the first picture book story from a creative classroom, “A Rabbit Opens a Shop.“[转载]置顶贴!关于绿孩子的缘起、使命、执行与发展。In addition, such activities have a certain demonstration and inspirational effect on teachers who observe on site.

⒉Green Kids Salon

This is an activity for the Green Kids volunteer group, and is currently only being tested in Beijing. As Green Kids develops, more and more volunteers will participate in such activities. We hope that in the future volunteers will spontaneously establish interest groups and organize related activities with themes. The current activities are as follows:
①Visiting art exhibitions
Through cooperation with the art center in 798 Art District, volunteers lead 20 students from migrant workers’ schools who are interested in painting to visit the exhibition every month, where they can have face-to-face communication with an artist who is exhibiting that month and create on the spot.

②Reading activities
In the middle of each month, volunteers from businesses and universities conduct “reading sessions” at the Tuanhe Migrant Workers’ Children’s School in Daxing, a Green Kids project site. Project managers, volunteers, and volunteer children visit the library, freely choose books, and then engage in silent reading, aloud reading, and group sharing. These volunteers use simple methods to guide children to enjoy high-quality books and the joy of reading.

③YUE reading meeting
On the last Saturday morning of every month, YUE Reading Club, a themed reading salon organized by Delicious Book Studio, Smile Library, and Green Children, kicks off the month’s book discussion in a humble spot in Wangfujing. Unburdened silent reading, themed sharing sessions, or a combination of outdoor reading and nature experiences are perfect weekend options.

This fund is replenished as soon as it is used to ensure the safety of the capital chain.

V. Fundraising Channels and Plans
1. Monthly Family Donation

In pilot cities, we are piloting a family partnership program, where families can support Green Kids through three donations: a monthly donation of 100 yuan, a quarterly donation of 300 yuan, or a one-time donation of 1,200 yuan. Donating families receive: 1. Two copies of each issue of Green Kids; 2. A monthly e‑newsletter (including a list of donors and a thank-you note); 3. An electronic donation certificate, as well as occasional city events. Furthermore, for families seeking pen pals, we will recommend that elementary school students from the project schools establish correspondence with the families. Through this “two-city correspondence” format, urban and rural children can better understand each other’s lives, while also providing support for rural children or children of migrant workers in cities through the power of a single family.
2. Corporate CSR Cooperation
Companies interested in supporting rural children’s education will sponsor one-term/one-year project fees. Donating companies will receive:
★The name of the sponsor of this issue of “Green Child” should be clearly indicated on the second cover of the magazine;
★ Publicize the donor’s charitable deeds when accepting media reports;
★Assist enterprises in formulating CSR activity plans.
3. Foundation Project Application
Integrate Green Kids’ effective resources, carry out project innovation and design capabilities, and apply for “Mobile Creative Classroom” project funds from relevant foundations.
4. Collaborate with other organizations for joint fundraising
