【Introduction to the two speakers】
Janell Cannon
A renowned American children’s author and illustrator currently living in Southern California, her works have won numerous awards and are widely beloved by children. Before devoting herself full-time to children’s book writing, she worked for many years at a public library, planning and producing summer reading programs. She has written a series of stories about animals that are generally considered unlovable and unpopular. Upon its release in the United States, “Star and Moon” immediately won the ABBY Bestseller Children’s Book of the Year award. The adorable little bats, Star and Moon, captivated countless children, catapulting Kennon to fame as one of the most important contemporary American children’s book creators.
Two of Janelle’s picture books, “Stars and Moon” and “Green Flute,” will soon be published in simplified Chinese. The simplified Chinese versions have been reviewed and translated by Ajia. These two books are extremely popular in American elementary schools. Besides their literary value, they also offer solid scientific content, making them ideal for science teachers. Consequently, they have consistently ranked among the top 10 in recent reader polls.
The Traditional Chinese version of “Xingyue” can be found at the following website:

Zhou Yifen (Editor-in-Chief, Taiwan Heying Publishing House)
A mother of two. After earning a master’s degree in Japanese literature in Taiwan, she went to the United States to obtain a master’s degree in educational psychology. In 2002, she received her doctorate from Beijing Normal University, with a dissertation titled “An Exploration of Children’s Favorite Picture Books from the Perspective of Cognitive Developmental Psychology.” She has been an editor of children’s books for over a decade and has won the Golden Tripod Award for Best Editor. Her picture books include “Mimi Says No,” “Mimi Loves to Imitate,” “Mimi Learns to Tidy Up,” “Mimi Sit on the Toilet,” and “Dongdong’s First Flight.” The copyrights for the Mimi series have been sold in over ten countries, and it has topped the Eslite Bookstore bestseller list for three consecutive years. “Dongdong’s First Flight” won the “Good Books for Everyone” Children’s Book of the Year Award.
The “Mimi Series” co-created by Zhou Yifen and Chen Zhiyuan is currently the most important original children’s picture book brand in Taiwan. Her encounter with Janelle Kennon also has an interesting story, and the conversation between the two about the humor and fun in picture books should also be very interesting.
