[Repost] Ink Painting Lesson 4 – Sketching

I’ve been so busy lately that I haven’t even had time to look at my daughter’s paintings. Thanks to a friend’s reminder, I finally took a closer look. Wow, these kids draw really well! Alas, when we were little… 🙁Original address:Ink Painting Lesson 4 – Sketchingauthor:Han and Miao[转载]水墨课四--写生
Today we also had a sketching class, drawing small branches. Mr. Bird had collected a lot of beautiful branches, so it was a good time to learn how to draw them.

Start by going outside and looking at the grass. The grass is long, bunched up at the bottom, and then spreads out.

The branches are so long that they become thinner and more numerous as they go up.

The leaves are like this, exactly as we learned. This is because the paintings of the ancients were inspired by life.
Why is there no technique for painting paulownia trees?
Because the paulownia tree came from abroad later and the ancients had never seen it, they did not leave behind any method of painting it.
Children can work hard to create how to draw sycamore leaves.

There must be density in painting. Let’s observe how density is distributed in nature.

The last class talked about “Chaoyuan Xianzhang”. Today, Master Wang Jian brought a painting that Shitou copied when he was 10 years old.
Shitou is the son of Master Wang Jian, and he will also learn painting with us in the future.

After finishing the painting, Bubu discovered a maze of wires outside the door, and he and his sister Xiaoyin started playing with the maze.

We also found a little black dog. I asked Bubu to observe it carefully and draw it later.
He took a look and said, it’s so black, how much ink does it take?

There are still many drawing exercises to be done, but children nowadays are too busy, so we don’t require them to practice at home.
You can just calm down and paint for three hours every week. As long as you persist, you will see results over time.

He’s made great progress. Now his brushstrokes are gradually taking on the flavor of ink painting. When he first started learning ink painting, he just used a brush to paint watercolors. It looked like brushwork, but it had nothing to do with ink painting. I told his mother he had to stop so he could study with Master Wang Jian, but they had just paid a lot of money, so they stopped immediately. Now he’s gradually getting into ink painting.
Why should we learn ink painting in the correct way? Isn’t painting with a brush combined with watercolor techniques also ink painting?
Yes, it looks good too.
But no matter how long you have been painting, you will not be able to understand the famous paintings of China throughout the ages.
If you learn ink painting in the right way, you will feel that the famous paintings and your paintings have a heritage and bloodline.
What will Xiaoyin think of Gong Xian in the future? She started learning ink painting from Gong Xian when she was young.
This kind of ink painting emotion is shared with masters from hundreds of years ago, and one can have a deep understanding of it.
