1. Today is Sunday, a truly wonderful day. Not only is it sunny, but electricity has finally arrived in the surrounding areas. Although it’s intermittent, it signifies a return to normal life. A better life has begun for the villagers!
2. Even though it was Sunday, the children still arrived early in groups of three or two. Morning reading began slightly earlier than usual. Xue Shanbing, who led the children in reciting a Tang Dynasty poem, led the children in the younger class. A detective led the older class, who taught them two number poems. Under the detective’s guidance, the children used various methods to strengthen their memory.
3. Military training began in the first period. The inspector was surprised to see the children practicing like normal men, chests puffed out and stomachs tucked in. Although some of them still had a hint of amusement in their expressions, they couldn’t help but continue the drill until the end. As they returned from the village’s dirt road, the children’s faces were all flushed. Was it the sun? Or was it excitement?
4. Other classes continued as scheduled. Qin Ming and Ju Xing taught the last two sessions of the senior class. Qin Ming also read the soon-to-be-published picture book, “The Bremen Musicians.” The children were playful at first, but were immediately captivated by the story. Later, Qin Ming allowed the children to tell their own stories. One child told a story about a lost corner, while another child simply told a rewritten version of the story of a crocodile falling in love with a giraffe. In this rewrite, the crocodile transformed into a shark, and the giraffe transformed into a sika deer.
The children in the junior class had a delightful weekend morning. First, Xue Shanbing led the children in drawing, with the theme being “Our Home.” The children worked diligently, even arguing over the color of the hen. The third period was the inspector’s reading class, another lesson the children had fought for. Originally, it was meant for the senior class, but at the insistence of the junior class, the inspector and Ju Xing switched roles. First, there was Xiao Duoduo, then there was the radish-pulling story. While the story wasn’t new to the children, the subsequent story game was a revelation! Two groups of people were suspended on a long, thick rope. The inspector and several tall girls from the junior class became a large radish, while the others, in order, became an old man, a grandmother, a little granddaughter, a puppy, a kitten, and a little mouse. But when the little mouse appeared, the senior class members, transformed into mice, joined the group and, without further ado, pulled the large radish out.
6. It was book borrowing time again in the afternoon, and the children took turns to check out books in an orderly manner. It seemed the children of Quanxin Village had developed a keen eye for quality books; the new batch the inspector had brought in was quickly sold out. The children were a bit boisterous at first, especially those in the senior class. One of them, Yan Wenlong, was a real joker, amusing the children in the senior and junior classes. The inspector promptly read the story “Eating Grandpa,” which also brought laughter to the children. Later in the afternoon, the inspector and Ju Xing led the children in singing “Songs and Smiles.” Most of the children had already learned it, but the inspector still had to correct a few things, resulting in a harmonious chorus. Under the inspector’s guidance, the five mezzo-sopranos in the senior class used a charming range to complement the bass harmonies.
7. In the afternoon, the other four completed a larger project, helping Teacher Xiong thoroughly clean up the adjacent vacant land. If they could find tents, they could set up a temporary library. The inspector also took the time to email the Ren Ai Foundation an evacuation plan for the Quanxin Village site. Ren Ai quickly responded and agreed to proceed according to our plan, with all personnel evacuating the site on the afternoon of July 5th.
At two o’clock in the morning on the 8th, we were awakened by a sudden downpour. The inspector hurriedly checked the tent and the surrounding area. It seemed that the recent infrastructure construction could be classified as a model project. Meanwhile, the downpour, which had lasted nearly an hour, did not foreshadow the arrival of a new rainy season for the Bamboo Forest Academy?
Carrot Inspector was completed at 3:00 AM on June 30th.
