It last\u00aded about 45 min\u00adutes, and every\u00adone was still eager to leave, espe\u00adcial\u00adly those who arrived late because they could\u00adn\u2019t find a place. I heard one moth\u00ader lat\u00ader pulled out a book and read to her chil\u00addren, much to their delight. I also saw on Wei\u00adbo that some friends, after final\u00adly fail\u00ading to find a place, took their chil\u00addren to the amuse\u00adment park instead, and they had a blast.<br>\n<br>\n&nbsp;<br>\n&nbsp;<br>\nThe weath\u00ader was beau\u00adti\u00adful that day, with no smog and a clear blue sky. While not as blue as Greece, the sun was gen\u00adtle and the breeze was pleas\u00adant, per\u00adfect for a relax\u00ading day out and read\u00ading. We did\u00adn\u2019t specif\u00adi\u00adcal\u00adly dis\u00adcuss what books we\u2019d read (since we weren\u2019t sure how old the chil\u00addren would be), but we each mem\u00ado\u00adrized a few books. I brought eight or nine to pre\u00adpare for dif\u00adfer\u00adent sit\u00adu\u00ada\u00adtions.<br>\n<br>\n&nbsp;<br>\n&nbsp;<br>\nThe first sto\u00adry I chose was \u201cSpring Has Arrived,\u201d from \u201cFrog and Toad: Good Friends.\u201d First\u00adly, spring has arrived, and sec\u00adond\u00adly, it\u2019s a per\u00adfect sto\u00adry for chil\u00addren to yell out. I once led over a thou\u00adsand chil\u00addren in a school to do so. The inspec\u00adtor and I were to tell the sto\u00adry togeth\u00ader, and we need\u00aded to assign roles: who would be the frog, and who would be the toad? The chil\u00addren seemed unan\u00adi\u00admous in their deci\u00adsion to play the toad, so we had to accept the major\u00adi\u00adty deci\u00adsion. It\u2019s quite non\u00adsen\u00adsi\u00adcal yet incred\u00adi\u00adbly cre\u00adative, per\u00adhaps a dec\u00adla\u00adra\u00adtion of our depar\u00adture from the elec\u00adtron\u00adic world into the out\u00adside world. Eng\u00adlish was\u00adn\u2019t a pri\u00ador\u00adi\u00adty, so I most\u00adly skimmed over it, just let\u00adting the kids enjoy the sto\u00adry. I want\u00aded them to main\u00adtain a sim\u00adple sense of won\u00adder in spring nature, sim\u00adply by keep\u00ading their eyes open, run\u00adning and jump\u00ading, and sniff\u00ading end\u00adless\u00adly.<br>\n<br>\n&nbsp;<br>\n&nbsp;<br>\nThe last game is \u201cA Gar\u00adden of Veg\u00adeta\u00adbles Became a Spir\u00adit\u201d. First read the sto\u00adry and recite this Bei\u00adjing nurs\u00adery rhyme, then divide into two groups, occu\u00adpy two posi\u00adtions, and attack and defend each oth\u00ader\u2026 In fact, it is just run\u00adning and chas\u00ading togeth\u00ader, but it requires a cer\u00adtain amount of group coop\u00ader\u00ada\u00adtion.<br>\n<br>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/s14.sinaimg.cn\/orignal\/5881300cgd7511885427d\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\u7ea2\u6ce5\u5df4\u6625\u5929\u6237\u5916\u8bfb\u4e66\u4f1a\u540e\u968f\u611f\" height=\"367\" name=\"image_operate_8701362643407005\" src=\"https:\/\/ajia.site\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/5881300cgd7511885427d.jpg\" style=\"margin: 0pt auto;display:block\" title=\"Thoughts after the Red Mud Spring Outdoor Reading Club\" width=\"490\"><\/a><br>\n&nbsp;<br>\n&nbsp;<br>\nBefore I knew it, the num\u00adber of peo\u00adple, adults and chil\u00addren, had snow\u00adballed to 40 or 50, mak\u00ading it hard to tell who was par\u00adtic\u00adi\u00adpat\u00ading and who was just spec\u00adtat\u00ading. The fun part was, just as the group was about to end, anoth\u00ader group of old friends arrived. A lit\u00adtle kid yelled, \u201cPangolin!\u201d\u2014Hi, even though I was late, I still had fun. That\u2019s the ben\u00ade\u00adfit of an out\u00addoor book club: being late does\u00adn\u2019t damp\u00aden the fun. Read\u00ading is just part of the game.<br>\n<span style=\"font-size: 16px;\"><br><\/span><br>\n<span style=\"font-size: 16px;\">&nbsp;<br>\n&nbsp;<br>\nIn pre\u00advi\u00adous years, Red Mud Book\u00adstore\u2019s par\u00adent-child book clubs were typ\u00adi\u00adcal\u00adly held on the sec\u00adond floor, accom\u00admo\u00addat\u00ading only a dozen adults and chil\u00addren. The space was always lim\u00adit\u00aded, and week\u00adends often required staff to work over\u00adtime, deny\u00ading them time off. While I tru\u00adly hope more friends will come to Red Mud Book\u00adstore to buy books, week\u00adends are still a good time to rest, espe\u00adcial\u00adly since we also need to take our chil\u00addren out\u00addoors for more exer\u00adcise and play.<\/span><br>\n<span style=\"font-size: 16px;\"><br><\/span><br>\n&nbsp;<br>\n&nbsp;<br>\nOlympic For\u00adest Park is a great place for week\u00adend out\u00addoor activ\u00adi\u00adties. The scenery changes through\u00adout the year, and the veg\u00ade\u00adta\u00adtion is clear\u00adly vis\u00adi\u00adble. Even with\u00adin the city, it offers a sense of wild\u00adness. We often wan\u00adder there on week\u00adends, some\u00adtimes going for a run or even a 10-kilo\u00adme\u00adter walk, which is quite enjoy\u00adable. How\u00adev\u00ader, it\u2019s a bit dis\u00adap\u00adpoint\u00ading to see so few peo\u00adple read\u00ading there, espe\u00adcial\u00adly chil\u00addren. So, I think friends who love chil\u00addren and books might want to take their chil\u00addren and books there often. While enjoy\u00ading the wild\u00adness, read\u00ading togeth\u00ader would be won\u00adder\u00adful!<br>\n<br>\n&nbsp;<br>\n&nbsp;<br>\nAt least we\u2019ll know that in the same city, under the same sky, there are peo\u00adple who share our love for chil\u00addren, read\u00ading, and nature. Next time we vis\u00adit the for\u00adest park, there will be many friends, both young and old, to greet each oth\u00ader, exchang\u00ading greet\u00adings about the sea\u00adsons. We\u2019ll no longer be strangers.<br>\n<br>\n&nbsp;<br>\n&nbsp;<br>\nAbout every two or three weeks, when the weath\u00ader is good, we will take the chil\u00addren to read and play togeth\u00ader.<br>\n<br>\n&nbsp;<br>\n&nbsp;<br>\nNext time, I hope to have more sto\u00adry\u00adtelling enthu\u00adsi\u00adasts, both adults and chil\u00addren, share their sto\u00adries. If there are a large group, we can split them into small\u00ader groups, with chil\u00addren of dif\u00adfer\u00adent inter\u00adests or ages. Each sto\u00adry should ide\u00adal\u00adly be between 5 and 10 min\u00adutes long. Sto\u00adry\u00adtelling out\u00addoors in front of a group of chil\u00addren can be chal\u00adleng\u00ading, even for expe\u00adri\u00adenced sto\u00adry\u00adtellers, so prac\u00adtice is rec\u00adom\u00admend\u00aded. Adults must ful\u00adfill their respon\u00adsi\u00adbil\u00adi\u00adties as guardians of their own chil\u00addren and act as watch\u00addogs for oth\u00ader chil\u00addren. Those of us with insti\u00adtu\u00adtion\u00adal back\u00adgrounds, includ\u00ading our\u00adselves, will not be dis\u00adplay\u00ading ban\u00adners or hand\u00ading out fly\u00aders.
