\nBut that was\u00adn\u2019t the rea\u00adson Cather\u00adine wrote this sto\u00adry; the real rea\u00adson was Leslie\u2019s death. Indeed, on the very day Jesse, invit\u00aded by his favorite music teacher to vis\u00adit the Muse\u00adum of Fine Arts in Wash\u00ading\u00adton, D.C., one of the hap\u00adpi\u00adest days of his life, tragedy struck. Leslie, trav\u00adel\u00ading alone to Ter\u00adabithia, acci\u00adden\u00adtal\u00adly drowned in the riv\u00ader. Imag\u00adine the dev\u00adas\u00adta\u00adtion this dealt to Jesse, and he har\u00adbored an unspo\u00adken regret: per\u00adhaps if he had dragged Leslie along to the muse\u00adum, the tragedy would\u00adn\u2019t have hap\u00adpened! \nIn fact, as the nov\u00adel\u00ad\u2019s ded\u00adi\u00adca\u00adtion states, it was writ\u00adten for her son, David. After read\u00ading it, David request\u00aded the inclu\u00adsion of Lisa Hill. Lisa was David\u2019s good friend. At the age of eight, she was caught in a rain\u00adstorm and struck by light\u00adning. \nWe know that Cather\u00adine was born a Chris\u00adt\u00adian. She worked as a mis\u00adsion\u00adary and wrote sev\u00ader\u00adal books to explain doc\u00adtrine to chil\u00addren. But what is very valu\u00adable is that in her nov\u00adels, we can\u2019t read a trace of preach\u00ading. \nCather\u00adine tru\u00adly knows how to warm the read\u00ader\u2019s heart. What sur\u00adprised me most in this sec\u00adtion of the nov\u00adel was the teacher, Mrs. Miles\u2019s reac\u00adtion. While the ear\u00adli\u00ader pas\u00adsages from Jesse and Leslie\u2019s per\u00adspec\u00adtives por\u00adtrayed the teacher as some\u00adwhat vil\u00adi\u00adfied, she actu\u00adal\u00adly pos\u00adsess\u00ades a tru\u00adly under\u00adstand\u00ading and thought\u00adful side. Hon\u00adest\u00adly, when I read this pas\u00adsage, I was com\u00adplete\u00adly struck. Chil\u00addren, like us, are prone to prej\u00adu\u00addice against par\u00adtic\u00adu\u00adlar indi\u00advid\u00adu\u00adals. \nJesse final\u00adly built a bridge to Ter\u00adabithia for his sis\u00adter, and this bridge is also built for every read\u00ader who loves life.<\/span><\/p>\n
