The pre\u00advi\u00adous one was \u201cAlas, Lit\u00adtle Red Rid\u00ading Hood!\u201d by Col\u00adin Mac\u00adNaughton of the Unit\u00aded King\u00addom.<\/span>Oops!<\/span>It\u2019s a cheer\u00adful, if some\u00adwhat non\u00adsen\u00adsi\u00adcal, sto\u00adry: Lit\u00adtle Pigle\u00adtuner, a guest actor in a clas\u00adsic fairy\u00adtale, dons a coat with a red hat, car\u00adries a bas\u00adket of food, and jour\u00adneys through the woods to vis\u00adit his grand\u00admoth\u00ader. The Big Bad Wolf, who\u2019s on his trail, finds this clich\u00e9d sto\u00adry incred\u00adi\u00adbly famil\u00adiar, but can\u2019t quite place it! When he over\u00adhears the con\u00adver\u00adsa\u00adtion between Lit\u00adtle Pigle\u00adtuner and his grand\u00admoth\u00ader, he final\u00adly real\u00adizes it\u2019s his own line. For more than three hun\u00addred years, this sto\u00adry has become one of the most famous fairy tales in the world. As far as I know, in terms of the rich\u00adness of retellings and adap\u00adta\u00adtions, \u201cLit\u00adtle Red Rid\u00ading Hood\u201d should be at the top of the list.<\/span><\/p>\n

In her book, \u201cLit\u00adtle Red Rid\u00ading Hood: The Evo\u00adlu\u00adtion of a Fairy Tale Over Three Hun\u00addred Years,\u201d Amer\u00adi\u00adcan schol\u00adar Kather\u00adine Oren\u00adsine traces the evo\u00adlu\u00adtion of this clas\u00adsic tale, attempt\u00ading to uncov\u00ader the deep\u00ader mean\u00adings behind the sto\u00adry\u2019s evo\u00adlu\u00adtion through the per\u00adspec\u00adtives of writ\u00aders, artists, psy\u00adchol\u00ado\u00adgists, folk\u00adlorists, fem\u00adi\u00adnists, adver\u00adtis\u00aders, film\u00admak\u00aders, and oth\u00ader social fig\u00adures. I imag\u00adine some will exclaim: Is this real\u00adly a sto\u00adry for chil\u00addren?<\/span><\/p>\n

How\u00adev\u00ader, what is cer\u00adtain is that this ver\u00adsion of Lit\u00adtle Red Rid\u00ading Hood belongs to Inno\u00adcen\u00adti. Although the text was writ\u00adten by Amer\u00adi\u00adcan writer Alan Frisch, it is clear\u00adly stat\u00aded on the cov\u00ader of the book that the work of sto\u00adry writ\u00ading and draw\u00ading was com\u00adplet\u00aded by Inno\u00adcen\u00adti, and many sto\u00adries in this pic\u00adture book are told entire\u00adly in pic\u00adtures.<\/span><\/p>\n

It\u2019s just that a painter like Inno\u00adcen\u00adti would nev\u00ader make a mis\u00adtake in such details. He delib\u00ader\u00adate\u00adly left this \u201comis\u00adsion\u201d, per\u00adhaps just to tell us: such an end\u00ading, believe it or not, he him\u00adself is deter\u00admined not to believe it.<\/span><\/p>\n

If you read the sto\u00adry in the paint\u00ading care\u00adful\u00adly, you will find that this is a painter who pays great atten\u00adtion to details. Through\u00adout the book, the shack where grand\u00adma lives and its back\u00adground appear four times. The first three times are in the trag\u00adic sto\u00adry. The top of the build\u00ading in the back\u00adground is a strik\u00ading \u201c<\/span>KING<\/span>\u201d (King\u2019s Build\u00ading), the com\u00adpa\u00adny\u2019s large sign reads \u201c<\/span>GOLD CO.
\nINC.<\/span>\u201d(Gold Co., Ltd.), look at it, it\u2019s even more con\u00adspic\u00adu\u00adous com\u00adpared to the garbage dump and mis\u00ader\u00adable shacks below! But by the fourth per\u00adfect end\u00ading, in the bright sun\u00adset, these signs were gone. Can you believe it?<\/span>

I think that this ver\u00adsion of Lit\u00adtle Red Rid\u00ading Hood by Inno\u00adcen\u00adti is not suit\u00adable for chil\u00addren who are too young to read.<\/span>8<\/span>This makes sense for read\u00aders aged 18 and above. But I think it might be eas\u00adi\u00ader for old\u00ader read\u00aders to accept it, per\u00adhaps read\u00aders who can accept the slight\u00adly dark and scary sto\u00adries of Har\u00adry Pot\u00adter. Because read\u00ading this Lit\u00adtle Red Rid\u00ading Hood does require a bit of a cold and hard heart.<\/span><\/p>\n

At this point, Innocenti\u2019s fans may be con\u00adfused: Why did this old man sud\u00adden\u00adly tell such a sto\u00adry?<\/span><\/p>\n

Frankly, I can\u2019t find much reli\u00adable back\u00adground infor\u00adma\u00adtion on this new book, which was pub\u00adlished last year. Per\u00adhaps we can ask the artist him\u00adself if we have the chance. How\u00adev\u00ader, you have to under\u00adstand that even the artist\u2019s own words are not nec\u00ades\u00adsar\u00adi\u00adly trust\u00adwor\u00adthy, so read\u00aders must explore it them\u00adselves.<\/span><\/p>\n

Regard\u00ading the cre\u00adative inten\u00adtion of \u201cUrban Lit\u00adtle Red Rid\u00ading Hood\u201d, I can only try to make some spec\u00adu\u00adla\u00adtions based on Inno\u00adcen\u00adti\u2019s life and cre\u00adative expe\u00adri\u00adence.<\/span>1940<\/span>The mas\u00adter illus\u00adtra\u00adtor was born in Flo\u00adrence, Italy in 1916. His child\u00adhood was spent in the war.<\/span>13<\/span>He dropped out of school at the age of 19 and went to help out in his fam\u00adi\u00adly\u2019s steel mill. Because he loved paint\u00ading and taught him\u00adself dili\u00adgent\u00adly, he grad\u00adu\u00adal\u00adly switched to the illus\u00adtra\u00adtion indus\u00adtry. After many years of hard work in this indus\u00adtry, he final\u00adly<\/span>42<\/span>At the age of 18, he co-authored his first pic\u00adture book, Lit\u00adtle Flow\u00aders on the Barbed Wire. How\u00adev\u00ader, it is no exag\u00adger\u00ada\u00adtion to say that this debut work is already a mas\u00adter\u00adpiece, which is prob\u00ada\u00adbly the result of years of hard work.<\/span><\/p>\n
