\nThe author, Jim\u00admy Liao, calls this an imper\u00adfect book. And he\u2019s right! For exam\u00adple, the title alone sug\u00adgests it\u2019s imper\u00adfect, at least not par\u00adtic\u00adu\u00adlar\u00adly inspir\u00ading. Fur\u00adther\u00admore, if you con\u00adsid\u00ader it a book for chil\u00addren, you\u2019ll find nei\u00adther exten\u00adsive knowl\u00adedge nor moral prin\u00adci\u00adples, not even addi\u00adtion, sub\u00adtrac\u00adtion, mul\u00adti\u00adpli\u00adca\u00adtion, and divi\u00adsion! This clear\u00adly demon\u00adstrates its imper\u00adfec\u00adtions.

\n  How\u00adev\u00ader, read\u00aders famil\u00adiar with Jim\u00admy Liao\u2019s works will prob\u00ada\u00adbly agree that com\u00adpared with his famous imper\u00adfect works, such as \u201cThe Secret of the For\u00adest\u201d, \u201cThe Moon For\u00adgot\u201d, \u201cFor\u00adest Singing\u201d, \u201cSub\u00adway\u201d, \u201cTurn Left, Turn Right\u201d, etc., this new work is not infe\u00adri\u00ador at all, and even has new break\u00adthroughs in some aspects, espe\u00adcial\u00adly in terms of chil\u00addren\u2019s per\u00adspec\u00adtive and chil\u00addren\u2019s inter\u00adest.

\n  The pro\u00adtag\u00ado\u00adnist of this book is named \u201cHao Wan\u00admei,\u201d a third-grade stu\u00addent. Her par\u00adents, hav\u00ading giv\u00aden her that name, clear\u00adly had high hopes for her. When she was lit\u00adtle, she seemed tru\u00adly per\u00adfect. But as she grew old\u00ader, things changed. At school, some class\u00admates delib\u00ader\u00adate\u00adly called her \u201cHao Wan\u00addan\u201d or \u201cHao Niang\u00admei,\u201d and com\u00adplain\u00ading to the teacher proved futile. This was\u00adn\u2019t a big deal; she could just find per\u00adfect nick\u00adnames to return the favor. But the most dif\u00adfi\u00adcult part was the increas\u00ading demands from her par\u00adents and the increas\u00ading\u00adly strin\u00adgent school stan\u00addards. Hao Wan\u00admei felt increas\u00ading\u00adly exhaust\u00aded, want\u00adi\u00adng to cry out: \u201cI\u2019m not a per\u00adfect kid any\u00admore!\u201d

\n  Jim\u00admy Liao attempts to re-exam\u00adine those often over\u00adlooked frag\u00adments of life from the per\u00adspec\u00adtive of an ele\u00admen\u00adtary school stu\u00addent, and at the same time uses an imag\u00adi\u00adnary \u201cper\u00adfect scale\u201d to mea\u00adsure each one: per\u00adfect front, side, and back; per\u00adfect prej\u00adu\u00addice; per\u00adfect trou\u00adble; per\u00adfect words; per\u00adfect regret; per\u00adfect assump\u00adtion; per\u00adfect hypoth\u00ade\u00adsis; per\u00adfect imag\u00adi\u00adna\u00adtion\u2026 Please note that the \u201cper\u00adfect\u201d here can refer to a com\u00admon adjec\u00adtive or a noun, such as the name of the lit\u00adtle pro\u00adtag\u00ado\u00adnist. The author plays such word games casu\u00adal\u00adly in the process of nar\u00adra\u00adtion. Some\u00adtimes (occa\u00adsion\u00adal\u00adly) he means it seri\u00adous\u00adly, but most of the time he uses obvi\u00adous irony. For exam\u00adple:

\n  Such wit\u00adty words, cou\u00adpled with Jim\u00admy Liao\u2019s icon\u00adic and live\u00adly illus\u00adtra\u00adtions, give the over\u00adall feel\u00ading very humor\u00adous and are very easy to read, but if you care\u00adful\u00adly con\u00adsid\u00ader the mean\u00ading, it is often thought-pro\u00advok\u00ading.

\n  Amidst the pro\u00adtag\u00ado\u00adnist Hao Wan\u00admei\u2019s ram\u00adbling self-nar\u00adra\u00adtion, the author fit\u00adting\u00adly weaves in a num\u00adber of famous quotes on \u201cper\u00adfec\u00adtion.\u201d For exam\u00adple, Sal\u00advador Dal\u00adi\u2019s \u201cDon\u2019t be afraid of per\u00adfec\u00adtion, for you can nev\u00ader achieve it,\u201d Maugh\u00adam\u2019s \u201cPer\u00adfec\u00adtion has one major flaw: it\u2019s often bor\u00ading,\u201d and George Bernard Shaw\u2019s \u201cIf the world were per\u00adfect, with\u00adout any prob\u00adlems, would\u00adn\u2019t we have noth\u00ading to do?\u201d These fig\u00adures, who rep\u00adre\u00adsent the pin\u00adna\u00adcle of human wis\u00addom, are equal\u00adly imper\u00adfect. Their wis\u00addom lies in acknowl\u00adedg\u00ading their imper\u00adfec\u00adtions and striv\u00ading for improve\u00adment. The book\u2019s final pages even fea\u00adture a host of imper\u00adfect greats\u2014Leonardo da Vin\u00adci, Galileo, Mozart, Beethoven, Hans Chris\u00adt\u00adian Ander\u00adsen, Marie Curie, Mon\u00adet, Flo\u00adrence Nightin\u00adgale, Edi\u00adson\u2026 Their names, when list\u00aded, shim\u00admer brighter than the stars in the sky, yet none of them are tru\u00adly per\u00adfect.

\n  So, in a sense, \u201cI\u2019m Not a Per\u00adfect Kid\u201d is still a very inspi\u00adra\u00adtional work. It is indeed very suit\u00adable for chil\u00addren and adults who have giv\u00aden up the pur\u00adsuit of per\u00adfec\u00adtion, because in their opin\u00adion, per\u00adhaps truth is more impor\u00adtant than per\u00adfec\u00adtion.

\n  This is a rare book that open\u00adly declares, \u201cIt\u2019s not per\u00adfect!\u201d Yet, amidst so many \u201cimper\u00adfect\u201d books, it\u2019s tru\u00adly per\u00adfect. With beau\u00adti\u00adful illus\u00adtra\u00adtions and text, and play\u00adful humor, it\u2019s a delight for all ages. And its pro\u00adfound mean\u00ading is tru\u00adly inspir\u00ading for chil\u00addren and adults alike. High\u00adly rec\u00adom\u00admend\u00aded.
