\nLet me briefly intro\u00adduce the \u201cStone Soup Read\u00ading Cam\u00adpus Alliance\u201d project.
\n   
\nAs the project name, \u201cStone Soup\u201d
\nThe idea of \u201cSoup\u201d comes from Ah Zhu, which is actu\u00adal\u00adly from a pic\u00adture book of the same name that every\u00adone is famil\u00adiar with. The sto\u00adry in the pic\u00adture book is based on very ancient folk\u00adlore, and there are dif\u00adfer\u00adent ver\u00adsions in dif\u00adfer\u00adent places. The most famil\u00adiar ver\u00adsion is the Amer\u00adi\u00adcan painter Jon Muth.
\nJ. Muth, a Chi\u00adnese sto\u00adry. The hous\u00ades in the book seem to have a strong Anhui style of archi\u00adtec\u00adture. I was lucky enough to be the one who trans\u00adlat\u00aded this book.

\n\u201cStone Soup\u201d tells the sto\u00adry of three monks who arrived at a vil\u00adlage in a beau\u00adti\u00adful val\u00adley. The vil\u00adlagers, hav\u00ading endured hard\u00adships, seemed to be doing well, but their hearts were closed, both to them\u00adselves and their neigh\u00adbors, so they would\u00adn\u2019t even open their doors to strangers. The three monks, how\u00adev\u00ader, began to cook stone soup in the vil\u00adlage cen\u00adter. A lit\u00adtle girl in yel\u00adlow clothes was the first to come and help, and then curi\u00adous vil\u00adlagers were drawn in. As they gath\u00adered and tried to share food and condi\u00adments, a mir\u00ada\u00adcle occurred\u2014they opened their hearts com\u00adplete\u00adly, became gen\u00ader\u00adous, and felt unprece\u00addent\u00aded joy\u2014and nat\u00adu\u00adral\u00adly, they enjoyed a feast of stone soup that even an emper\u00ador would\u00adn\u2019t have the priv\u00adi\u00adlege of enjoy\u00ading.

\nSuch a beau\u00adti\u00adful sto\u00adry makes our imag\u00adi\u00adna\u00adtions run wild.

\nLet\u2019s talk about the ori\u00adgins of our project. It began a few years ago as a mul\u00adti-school read\u00ading pro\u00admo\u00adtion ini\u00adtia\u00adtive: the two-year \u201cGood Books for Every\u00adone to Read\u201d ini\u00adtia\u00adtive, ini\u00adti\u00adat\u00aded by Tunxi Road Pri\u00adma\u00adry School and fund\u00aded by the Chen Yix\u00adin Foun\u00adda\u00adtion. The sim\u00adple, hon\u00adest inten\u00adtions of the ini\u00adtia\u00adtors, through small acts of kind\u00adness, sowed the seeds of a love of read\u00ading in count\u00adless chil\u00addren over those two years.<\/p>\n

   
\nThe inspec\u00adtor and I first learned about the project in 2009 and made some ear\u00adly con\u00adtri\u00adbu\u00adtions, but we did\u00adn\u2019t offi\u00adcial\u00adly become read\u00ading con\u00adsul\u00adtants until 2010. So we can only be con\u00adsid\u00adered the late\u00adcom\u00aders, or the vil\u00adlagers who came to the mar\u00adket. In the ear\u00adly stages of the project, we main\u00adly focused on pro\u00advid\u00ading more suit\u00adable books for chil\u00addren and striv\u00ading to build an ide\u00adal school library. Even more ide\u00adal\u00adly, James
\nPro\u00adfes\u00adsor Hen\u00adri pro\u00adposed the \u201cSchool in Library\u201d
\nJames has trav\u00adeled thou\u00adsands of miles to Hefei many times to vis\u00adit the city, con\u00adtribut\u00ading many valu\u00adable sug\u00adges\u00adtions and becom\u00ading a pop\u00adu\u00adlar \u201cfor\u00adeign monk\u201d here.
\nBetween 2010 and 2011, the project shift\u00aded its focus to fos\u00adter\u00ading a strong cam\u00adpus read\u00ading envi\u00adron\u00adment. This approach pri\u00ador\u00adi\u00adtized three key ele\u00adments of the read\u00ading envi\u00adron\u00adment: books, time, and peo\u00adple. By improv\u00ading these fac\u00adtors, the project aimed to improve the over\u00adall read\u00ading envi\u00adron\u00adment, there\u00adby help\u00ading more stu\u00addents devel\u00adop an inter\u00adest in and habit for read\u00ading. While mul\u00adti-school col\u00adlab\u00ado\u00adra\u00adtive activ\u00adi\u00adties were also imple\u00adment\u00aded dur\u00ading this phase, the empha\u00adsis was on empow\u00ader\u00ading each school to inde\u00adpen\u00addent\u00adly devel\u00adop its own unique cam\u00adpus read\u00ading cul\u00adture, tai\u00adlored to its spe\u00adcif\u00adic cir\u00adcum\u00adstances.<\/p>\n

   
\nSix project schools have come togeth\u00ader this year: Tunxi Road Pri\u00adma\u00adry School, Shuguang Road Pri\u00adma\u00adry School, Weigang Pri\u00adma\u00adry School, Tai\u00adhu Road Pri\u00adma\u00adry School, Wanghu Road Pri\u00adma\u00adry School, and Chang\u00adshi Affil\u00adi\u00adat\u00aded Pri\u00adma\u00adry School. Their hard work and cre\u00adativ\u00adi\u00adty have brought us a vibrant and col\u00ador\u00adful cul\u00adture of read\u00ading on cam\u00adpus. Not only are the chil\u00addren and teach\u00aders read\u00ading more, they are also more ener\u00adgetic and seem to have a greater sense of well-being. These six schools will nat\u00adu\u00adral\u00adly become the found\u00ading schools for our sub\u00adse\u00adquent \u201cStone Soup\u201d project.<\/p>\n

   
\nAs the pre\u00advi\u00adous project was near\u00ading its end, we had the hon\u00ador of meet\u00ading the Pri\u00adma\u00adry School Affil\u00adi\u00adat\u00aded to Hefei Nor\u00admal Uni\u00adver\u00adsi\u00adty. Dur\u00ading the vis\u00adit and com\u00admu\u00adni\u00adca\u00adtion, we were amazed by the unique cam\u00adpus cul\u00adture they had care\u00adful\u00adly craft\u00aded. There\u00adfore, we solemn\u00adly invit\u00aded the Pri\u00adma\u00adry School Affil\u00adi\u00adat\u00aded to Hefei Nor\u00admal Uni\u00adver\u00adsi\u00adty to join us in mak\u00ading stone soup and share our expe\u00adri\u00adence as the ini\u00adti\u00adat\u00ading school.

\nAs you\u2019ve seen, in addi\u00adtion to the sev\u00aden schools men\u00adtioned above, the new\u00adly launched project also includes new alliance schools: Shuhong Pri\u00adma\u00adry School, Dongliu Road Pri\u00adma\u00adry School, Geda\u00addi\u00adan Pri\u00adma\u00adry School, Jin\u00adputao Pri\u00adma\u00adry School, Changfeng Duji Cen\u00adtral School, Changfeng Gangji Cen\u00adtral School, Changfeng Yang\u00admiao Cen\u00adtral School, and Changfeng Wushan Cen\u00adtral Pri\u00adma\u00adry School. More schools (and even kinder\u00adgartens) may join in the future. So, how do we pre\u00adpare this pot of stone soup?

\nThere are many ways to make stone soup, and we don\u2019t have time to dis\u00adcuss them in detail today. How\u00adev\u00ader, the most impor\u00adtant ques\u00adtion is: who will do it? In future projects, we sin\u00adcere\u00adly hope that all alliance schools can work togeth\u00ader to make stone soup. The sev\u00aden found\u00ading schools who have tak\u00aden the lead need to shoul\u00adder greater respon\u00adsi\u00adbil\u00adi\u00adty and help oth\u00ader alliance schools through shar\u00ading, exchange, and var\u00adi\u00adous cre\u00adative col\u00adlab\u00ado\u00adra\u00adtive activ\u00adi\u00adties, joint\u00adly cul\u00adti\u00advat\u00ading dis\u00adtinc\u00adtive, cre\u00adative, and vibrant cam\u00adpus read\u00ading cul\u00adtures. The prin\u00adci\u00adpals\u2019 round\u00adtable meet\u00ading, which will begin the day after tomor\u00adrow, is part of this process.

\nThe secret to mak\u00ading a great soup is choos\u00ading the right chef! All the prin\u00adci\u00adpals and teach\u00aders here will be the chefs of this soup, and that\u2019s the mag\u00adic of stone soup.
